Joey is a proponent of the Opportunity Zone legislation that was included in the 2017 Tax Cut and Jobs Act and has represented HunterMaclean in a national working group of attorneys, accountants, developers, and others who have collaborated to provide input in the regulatory process. He is currently working with a number of clients who are considering how they might benefit from the program and enjoys sharing about the program with others.
Joey represents large and small corporate clients in a broad range of industries, as well as individual clients in connection with their estate planning and real estate administration. He is a connector, bringing in other HunterMaclean attorneys when needed to assist clients with a wide variety of legal needs.
Represented buyers and sellers of operating businesses, including hotels, golf clubs, resorts, restaurants, manufacturers, retail stores, professional firms, and franchises
Represented clients in some of the largest residential transactions in Georgia, from oceanfront Sea Island estates to quail plantations near Thomasville
Engaged as outside general counsel to some of the largest landowners in the U.S. and in Georgia real estate and business transactions, including publicly traded REITs and members of the LandReport 100 List
Served as title agent for one of the largest title insurance policies issued in Georgia
Served as counsel and title agent for two of the largest conservation acquisitions in Georgia
Coordinated estate and tax counsel for high net worth individuals
Served on a national working group of professionals providing input on the TCJA Opportunity Zone regulations
Represented lenders in numerous real estate and commercial loan transactions
Served as counsel to real estate and condominium developers and property owners’ associations
